Invite-a-Knight. Our Saxon Knight adds the WOW factor to your lessons or event

A session with Thegn Herewald, take around 1hr, and is highly interactive for both students and Teachers.

Real and Fake (safe for children to handle) weapons are used to demonstrate how fighting was performed in these violent days! Students will form a shield wall, the most common form of battle formation, and its strengths ad weaknesses will be shown.

Thegn Herewald will talk about the great battle that took place as the Saxons took control of most of what would become England (the lands below the Trent and Mersey).

He will explain in detail the reasons behind the failure at Hastings and what became of the Famous Huscarls and other Saxons post 1066.

Your students will learn more in 1 hour with Thegn Herewald than from a book! and will love the awe inspiring presentation he gives.

We often think of the 'Anglo-Saxons' as being English, but this was a time before 'England' was a country!

Our Saxon shows, set the scene of where they came from and why, how in many ways they were similar to the Norsemen who would follow them from northern Europe in the years that followed.

We look at the way the Saxon society, separated into the East/West Saxons and the Mercians, how they finally came together to fight the Norsemen (vikings) and finally lost at the Battle of Hastings to the Normans.

We look at the weaponry, fighting style and how it differed from the Norsemen and Normans. How the Saxon warrior use a Horse compared to the Norman knight.

We also look at the way the Saxons change from being Pagan to Christian, and how this affected their lives and the role of Aelfred (the Great) and his role in uniting the Saxons (plus why was he called great?)
